Why NGL Touch?

Self-service terminals help librarians/library staff to minimize their efforts at Circulation desk. Using Self-service terminals library users can Check out (Issue), Check in (Return), and Renew Items themselves.
NGL Touch application has been optimized for Touch screens. Therefore if your self service kiosk is using a touch screen, NGL Touch is ready for the finger touch.
Please note that NGL Touch does not require any technologies like RFID or EM.

Secure your digital content with NGL Open Source

NGL introduces the all new security system for your valuable digital content. With this you can build a secured digital library easily.

How does it work?

User Groups: Create user groups with a combination of one or more User Categories, Departments, Courses, and Specific user ids.

Document categories: Create document categories like Preview, Table of Content, Full Text or Miscellaneous

Quick permissions: Create a permission with a combination of User groups and document categories. This step is optional.

Finally assign permissions: In Primary Cataloguing Screen (as well as edit) you can just apply permissions to your entire catalogue record(applies to all digital attachments of that catalogue record) or apply permissions to specific digital attachment.

“Open Access” and “Access to all logged in users” category: Apart from above permission you can also use quick categories like “Open Access” and “Access to all logged in users”. Open Access gives access to all users even if they are not logged in. “Access to all logged in users” provides access to those users who are logged into the NGL Opac.

Which version of NGL supports this feature?

Version 3.0.4 R2 U2 onwards supports this feature.

Bring NGL to your City

NGL Open Source Team is happy to bring library automation to your Town/City/District through Group Adaptation Program. Through this program NGL Open Source Team will come to  your District to help you implement NGL Open Source.

If you are a group of librarians in the same district who want to automate your library. Then this program is just for you.

How does Group Adaptation Program Work?

Step 1: Form a group of librarians. There must be a minimum 20 organizations and maximum 40 participants.

Step 2: NGL Open Source Team will install NGL at all the 20 organizations online. Team will also install the migrated data

Step 3: A resource person will travel to your district and conduct a centralized training program for the whole group. The resource person will conduct a detailed training program for 3 days (can be extended for another 2 days).

Step 4: NGL Open Source Team will provide a hand holding period for 3 months till the librarians are comfortable in using the system

 

How much does it cost?

NGL Open Source charges only 25 USD (INR 1,000) per organization(NOT per participant). This is the cost of resource person for training only. We do not charge for rest of the activities. If the organization pays another 12 USD (Rs 500), the organization gets free commercial support for one year. However this is optional. Organizations that are not paying the additional 12 USD (Rs 500) will always get Free Open Source Support.

Additional costs: The travel expenses of resource person and local hospitality must be born by the group

Important Requirement: Host organization

The host organization is the organization where the training program is conducted.

The host organization must provide a computer lab for training of the group. The host organization may charge the group for this facility.

Additionally host organization may provide and charge the group for local hospitality.

Certificates provided

NGL Open Source Team will issue official NGL Training certificates to all the participants. NGL Open Source Team will also issue official One Year Support agreements with organizations opting for commercial support by paying additional 12 USD (Rs 500).

Smart Phones in Libraries, Know about the book without touching it

Your users would like to have a glance about New Arrivals before Checking out them. Also, some libraries display New Arrivals in special shelves. Users can only see the display items but cannot access them. One has to search for the details of the items using an OPAC terminal.

NGL Open Source makes the task very simple to the users. The users having Smart phones can immediately access the details of the new arrivals by focusing their phone camera on the item. Thats it, they have the details of the book (new arrival) on their Smart Phone.

How it works?

The magic is QR Codes.

NGL now presents a functionality to print QR Codes. Using NGL WorkBench QR Codes for new arrivals can be printed. In fact you can print QR Codes for any catalogue record.

Printing QR codes can be as simple(and cheap) as printing them on A4/Letter papers using a Laser/Ink-jet printers.

These QR Codes can be stuck in an area before the book. Once the user focuses the Smart Phone camera to the QR Code, the browser of the Smart Phone will immediately open  catalogue record details of the book. The web page containing the details of the catalogue details is customized for Smart Phone browsers.

NGL new release is now ready to serve you (NGL 3.0.4 R2 U1)

NGL Open Source Team is happy to announce of a new update NGL 3.0.4 R2 U1.

What’s new in this update?

Introduction of QR Codes
You can now generate QR codes for your New Arrival collection through NGL WorkBench. Users can now scan the QR codes with their Smart phones (Supported by all major smart phones running on Android, iOS(iPhone) and Windows ) to see details/reviews on the new arrival.
Libraries may extend QR codes for the whole collection also.

The development team did a major over-hauling of the Acquisitions module. All the sub functionalities in Acquisitions module have under gone major changes. The below is the summary of changes
1. Batch actions introduced: You can now approve multiple user requests (Suggestions by users for new publications), on-approvals, process gifts, process quotations in a single click.
2. Batch import functionality: You can now batch import a list of user requests received from departments, on-approvals from vendors, and Gifts from CSV files. This will ease your data entry.
3. Customized work flows for processing user requests: You can now define a workflow for each user category. The user request gets processed according the workflow. The user can also customize the workflow at the time of posting a request.
“Send back for comments” action is now introduced in every work-flow step. This is in addition to Approve and Reject actions .
4. Processing a batch of Accession numbers in a single click at the time of accessioning.
5. All form letters are now easily customizable. Free marker template engine is now applied to all sub functionalities in Acquisitions
Note: Libraries using the earlier version of Acquisitions are requested to contact support team to migrate their old Acquisitions data.

NGL AutoEOD executes database maintenance. This will speed up the database process. This also avoids manual intervention to do database maintenance

In Circulation, renewal date generation is now customization. In General Setup Parameters you can define whether renewal date must be generated from the current date(date of renewal) or from due date (by default)

In NGL Desktop Reports, two new reports are added.
1. Circulation -> List Overdue material in demand. This report lists only those over due items that have reservations on them
2. Circulation -> Requests for check-out
A new utility “Re-associate Accession number to another Catalogue record” is introduced.
